Motel 6 explodes.

A Motel 6 in Bremerton exploded last night.

Manager Tonya Hinds said in a telephone interview with the AP that a passerby had come into her office to say a gas line was leaking at the back of the building. Hinds — a former volunteer firefighter — said she went outside and saw that the leaking line was a big one “with a lot of gas.”

“I pulled the alarm and started corralling people away from the building,” Hinds said. “I wanted to make sure all my guests were out.”
Good job on the part of the manager. There are two still missing, could have been much worse.

Coverage of the incident varies depending on the website. Some of my co-workers in the shipyard objected to this;

The hotel in the Seattle suburb was evacuated before Tuesday night's explosion....
Bremerton is located west of Seattle across Puget Sound, about an hour by ferry. Some of the more conservative Bremerton folks don't really like being called a suburb of liberal Seattle seeing as how it is a shipyard city and not dependent upon Seattle to exist. :)

I guess the coverage could have been worse; they could have said "US Navy denied any of the operating nuclear reactors in the town were affected by the blast."
