This is obviously intended for conservative Americans, but feel free to chime in if you're not.
The only declared candidates I'm seeing who served are Lindsey Graham, who was a USAF lawyer, and Rick Perry, a USAF C-130 pilot.
On the Dem side, it's just Jim Webb, an Annapolis graduate, Marine Captain, and Viet Nam veteran.
Obviously it's only fair that I tell you my service:
Drafted in 1971, two years active duty, four years inactive reserve with one rather bizarre two week reserve callup. The inactive reserve is because active reserves were full up with guys using it to dodge the draft. The Army chose not to send me to Viet Nam. That didn't bother me at all.
