Tort Law and Statute of Limitations (UK)

A Statute of Limitations is a countdown before legal action can no longer be taken. In this case, A British soldier has accumulated a £70 bar tab in Wessex before being deployed overseas to Germany for 2 years, then moving with his Fiancee to Cardiff, and 5 years later the Bar's management has informed his solicitor about this debt.

Would the debt still be valid, or not (bearing in mind that 2 of the past 7 years have been spent overseas)?
