Hospitals asking about religion

When I first started spending a lot of time in hospitals many years ago, they always asked about one's religious affiliation on admission. I once had a bit of an argument with one nurse, when I answered "None" - she insisted that I had to believe in something (I'm an atheist). More recently, I've never been asked the question (this is in the UK).



Is this question still asked in hospitals in other countries?
