While looking for US 19th century civilian stuff, I ran across this supposedly newly discovered diary written during the US Civil War:

I hope it's not one of those things where they promise more and then never actually publish it and it sinks unfinished as an old geocities-style webpage, but the under-construction dates look recent enough that more actually might appear. It's up to mid 1862 so far.
The provenance is about zero, but the puzzle is: Is it a real transcription of an older diary, and if so, from where and originally written by who? Well, actually, we know it's written by "your great great great uncle." Grrrr... why do descendants always mark things that way?
Anyway, it's obviously not by anybody famous and there's nothing earthshaking being revealed, so this isn't like some Lincoln diary coming to light that'll hit the news. But it seems pretty tight on lots of political and historical details, so it might be useful to researchers of the US Civil War homefront (like me) if it's real and can be narrowed down to location and situation.
I've got my own ideas, but just thought I'd toss it out to see what other folks think.
Edited to add: Oops, didn't think, would it be NSFW for anybody? It contains some period words referring to African-Americans that might be bleeped today, so be forewarned as far as NSFW.
