I attended a funeral service this morning and listened to the story of Lazarus. It got me thinking about a few things. The first was a Buffy the Vampire episode. Spoiler alert: Buffy's friends use a resurrection spell on Buffy but Buffy doesn't seem very happy about it when she is back but doesn't say why. It turns out she was pulled out of heaven or at least a place she was happier than here. Even an atheist like myself winced big when I heard that. Her friends really screwed her bringing her back. Lazarus was a FOJ (friend of Jesus). He must have been in heaven. Why pull a guy out of heaven unless you hate him?
Another thing the minister said was one of his favorite passages in the Bible was Jesus wept. If Lazarus was in heaven why weep? Maybe Jesus let on a little too much about death?
Another thing, I thought of a thread here where someone asked if it would be better if only Jesus stuff comprised the New Testament. Well if you like Jesus' philosophy but think his being divine may be overstated than the raising of a guy dead four days dead has fraud written all over it. How come we don't have Lazarus' testimony about the afterlife? He could have backed Jesus up on that one. Tricking people with demonstrations of fake resurrections sounds less than prophet like to me.
