Ricky Gervais has even gotten involved.

I wondered what the consensus on this forum is.
Personally I think we should be exploring alternatives which make use of the information economy to generate funding for conservation.
For instance we could give all those people who sign online petitions against lion hunting an opportunity to act on their convictions by funding lion conservation through crowd funding?
If there are enough people with convictions against hunting then individual lions would be spared this fate and their species would survive.
Another idea would be for corporates that benefit from nature to contribute. For instance Disney might even get involved in funding efforts as making films about recently extinct animals for children might not prove very popular.
