Yes, I know we have threads on the shutdown, but I'm hoping we could try to discuss who to blame; and if it is possible to lay blame at the feet of an individual or individuals...
So....my myopic Republicans friends keep blaming Harry Reid. "The House has sent him bill after bill and he refuses to debate them and just sends them back to the house."
The bills that are sent to the Senate have stipulations - at least I think they do - about defunding the ACA so, to Reid, these bills are a no go.
But, should the House (and Boehner) be sending bills with stipulations about defunding a the ACA (which is a law and had the bonus Supreme Court go around) - is that how legislation is done? Is that how legislation is done when there is a law on the books you/your party/your constituents don't like - one tries to cut the funding?
From what I gather, the above is true.
But, shouldn't the country have a budget by now? As far as I know, the house sends little piecemeal bits of funding legistlation to keep the government going (in a monetary sense.)
So, at whose feet should the blame fall for not having a budget?
If we had a budget, would we be in the mess? And since we don't have one, and we can pin-point blame to a person/group, would they be the cause for the government shutdown?
