Ok, here goes. It was suggested to me that I open a new thread regarding Bowen therapy.
I have a serious back injury. I have bowen therapy every 4 weeks or so.I have found it to be effective in allowing me to continue to work.
I am also aware that I have vastly changed my attitude to pain since experiencing my injury, and that in many cased, pain is an emotion, and I have learned to remove the emotional component...
But, as to Bowen, there are a few different camps. Some do almost no moves, and leave the room for long breaks in between. That has no credibility with me.
My first experience with Bowen was after having pain in my arm for some weeks, the physio was simply massaging it with no relief at all. I was at a small country show, and say an older man offering bowen therapy. I knew nothing about it, but thought that it couldn't make the pain much worse, that's how badly it was hurting. I went in, and the guy said something like "It will hurt like hell, but you mustn't make a sound". He did a move under my armpit. It DID hurt like hell... but within five minutes the pain was gone...and never returned.
As a first experience with bowen it was impressive.
My understanding of it is that it involves moving the fascia. It utilizes rolling moves, and for me I find it provides great relief.
That's my experience with it.
I do, however, think they do themselves great disservice by associating themselves with various practitioners of woo.....
