My tastes in computer gaming tend to run toward things like Hearts and Chess. These are not exactly graphics-heavy. It has been a while since I actually have purchased a decent graphics card.
I find myself, though, wanting to assemble a "gaming rig", mostly for my son's enjoyment. I had decide to use one of the new generation of cards that are just being delivered today. The three candidates are the NVIDIA 1060 or 1070, and the Radeon RX480....or so I thought.
It seems that there are lots and lots of variations on these cards, enough that I am fairly baffled as to what my options really are. On top of that, two of the three cards are brand new, and sold out at most places, while the third (the 1060) hasn't actually been released yet. As a result, the prices vary quite a bit, and I can't be sure if two different models are different prices because one has better features, or because one supplier has decided they can jack up the prices while the boards remain in short supply.
I know one important variation in cards is the amount of RAM on them. I can figure out that one, but it seems like there might be other features that, to me, seem insignificant, but others would recognize that the extra feature on that one would truly make the difference between a cool gaming rig, versus an awesome one.
Can anyone offer any advice on choosing between these variations? I would be much obliged.
