In the National Assessment of Educational Progress tests girls have beaten boys in nearly every category. The exams, given to about 22,000 eighth graders (~13) cover engineering and technology; 45% of female students were proficient in tech skills, compared to 42% of male students.
On questions that involved communication and collaboration (troubleshooting and solution development) the girls had an even greater lead, 5%; in communication technology, 6%.
