Music Management Help!

I generally use MS Media Player to playback all the CD's I have stashed away on my computer. (Windows 7)
I did have a duplicate of the various CD's on a separate internal drive, plus the Networked drive, plus the nooks and crannies my wife stashed stuff to, so I started consolidating onto the Networked drive
Now I have a number (like damn near every on of 'em) of dup;licates, many of which don't even exist any more showing up in the Media Player Library (ies).
The I noticed that some of the tracks wouldn't copy. Upon investigation, the ones that wouldn't accept a copy (and which were missing trackss duplicated elsewhere) had a ".ini" file in the album, along with the tracks.
I go rid of the ini files, and that seemed to work, although I still have duplicates all over the damn places, with missing tracks in the main library
I want 1 library.
I thought I could convince MP to start all over, but apparently deleting a library in some cases deletes not only the Library tag, but every damn file in that location that is linked to the "Library"

I'm open to suggestions. I want them all in one place, with a backup elsewhere. I'm not seeing an easy solution, so any help would be appreciated...
