Pollard Paroled -- but cannot leave USA for Israel

Jonathan Pollard is due to be freed on parole Nov. 20.

However, his legal team is asking President Obama to facilitate a relaxing of the parole conditions in order to allow "Yoni" to depart for Israel, rather than remain for the next five years in the USA (as the terms of his parole are reported to specifiy).

White House spokesperson (deputy national security adviser for strategic communication Ben Rhodes) spoke to Israeli reporters in a briefing late Thursday night, saying ""President Obama has not intervened in the judicial process here in the United States, and that's been his consistent approach..."

WTF???
Obama has commuted sentences of 89 people during his presidency, more than any American president since Lyndon B. Johnson. He has granted full pardons to another 64 people. Additionally, Obama is expected to announce more commutations later this month in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday.
When he has announced commutations, the President has said that the sentence of the convicts did not fit their crime.

The crime of Pollard was "one count of conspiracy to deliver national defense information to a foreign government" - USC|18|794(c)
This was intel provided to an ally without intent to harm the United States — an offense that TODAY normally would result in only a 2–4 year sentence.

On March 3, 2011, Kissinger wrote a letter to President Obama stating, "having talked with George Shultz and read the statements of former CIA Director Woolsey, former Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman DeConcini, former Defense Secretary Weinberger, former Attorney General Mukasey and others whose judgement and first-hand knowledge of the case I respect, I find their unanimous support for clemency compelling. I believe justice would be served by commuting the remainder of Jonathan Pollard's sentence".
