Humans will "Evolve" out of religion

So I imagine others have thought of this and I am sure there are articles on it, but I thought I would share anyways. I truly believe that humans will eventually leave religion behind. I believe that this process will take many thousands of years, but it will happen. Religion has always been a means for humankind to attempt to explain things that were at the time unexplainable. Throughout history thousands of different religions have existed that humans used to explain how humans came into existence, where they are going next, and why the world/universe is the way it is. These religions have changed over time, based on new information and human beings learning more about their physical environment through the eventual development of science as we know it today.

The more humans have learned about the world, the more religion has changed and evolved. Of course throughout time there have always been those who questioned religion. These individuals have historically been met with ridicule, punishment, and even death. This still happens today. But it is not as prevalent today, and as time progresses, and we learn more and more about the world and the universe, people will start to understand and see that religion has always been a creation of man to explain the world around them. As we gain new information and enlightenment, more and more individuals will ditch religion, and become more focused on exploring the universe and trying to find the real answers. I believe that once we have the ability to truly look beyond our solar system and explore, religion will eventually be a thing of the past.

To put it another way, I think if a super-intelligent alien race who has been in existence for millions of years stumbled upon our planet right now, this is what they would have to say about religion:
"Yes, we once used to believe in religion just like you guys. A couple million years ago we used to worship all sorts of non existent deities as a means to explain what we did not have the answers to, and to feel some sort of comfort about the unknown. But once we discovered the ability to space travel and eventually perfected it, we realized that we were not alone, and that there is much more to this universe than some gods we made up just to feel better about ourselves. You humans will learn this too, even though for you it will take hundreds of thousands if not millions of years to finally accept the truth. Even with our presence here today, showing you that you are not alone, your religions will find a way to explain it somehow within the confines of their writings. But for you enlightened individuals out there who have already freed yourselves from religion, take solace in knowing that even though your world will still focus on religion for many many years to come, one day your race will eventually evolve and explore the universe just like us."

Does anyone else feel this way or have a similar theory about the future of religion?
