As we all know, countless small businesses are now run from home. There's no need to have a physical storefront, and cell phones ensure that these business owners are always available. But the real question here is... Why has "big business" been so slow to adapt to the new technologies available, in regards to having their employees work from their own homes?
In particular, people who work in call centers and data entry positions could potentially work from home using the same technology they'd use in the office.
My primary, over-simplified guess on the matter concerns human nature and productivity; "When the cat's away, the mice will play."
