I realize this topic may be mostly interesting to Europeans...
Basically, what is your stance on the European Union, its policies, how it works, how it could (or should) or work, its influence on Europe and the world (positive, negative, no difference)?
I wonder how big it will eventually be. I think all the Balkan countries will eventually join. I doubt Norway, Iceland or Switzerland will join anytime soon. Turkey will probably join eventually, but it does start to look less probable. Belarus, maybe when Putin's puppet disappears. Ukraine maybe (the Russian population there is not particularly inclined to do so). The Caucasus countries, perhaps some day, though they are all rather authoritarian.
Some wildcards: Russia? Possible in theory, but looks extremely unlikely to happen within my lifetime. Russia's population is slowly dying out however, so they will noy become a superpower however much Putin may desire it. Israel? Almost as unlikely as Russia, but for entirely different reasons. Kazakhstan has a tip in Europe, but it seems very unlikely they will ever join.
The euro seems to survive for now, though to a very high price for southern Europe. The question of joining the euro is politically dead in Sweden.
