Are O Glycans related to the sugar I eat?

Based on a discussion offline with someone referencing the study summarized here to prove that all sugars should be removed from the diet. I have long been of the opinion that sugar intake should be moderated, and have even had success in weight loss and fitness by reducing (not eliminating) my sugar intake, but I don't hold with the idea that we can or should do without completely.



My Google fu has failed to turn up any non-sciencey, layman-understandable source that tells me the relation of O Glycans with normal sugar, so I turn to the omnipotence that is JREF for my answers.



I shall leave sacrifices at the altar on my way out.
