I am currently using a Pentium D 2.8 Ghz as my TV server and looking to replace it in a few months. Reason why is that it is on the edge of its capabilities when dealing with 1080 p video. In addition, I would like to put a blu ray in it and I have no available sata slots.
I have a case
I have a power supply
I have 8 Gb of DDR3 not using
I have a 500 Gb, 1.5 Tb, and 3 TB hard drives
I have a sata dvd rom
I even have a video card I can use if on board video is not already better - GT-240
What I want:
1. Quad core processor - Level of performance of the A4-5000 processor is not good enough for what I want. I want at least a AMD 5350 APU level of performance.
2. At least 4 SATA ports on the mother board
3. Good on board video and/or PCI-e capability
4. Most other features I require are all standard now already.
There are two different options
1. Motherboard CPU combo with an APU
2. separate motherboard and CPU
This needs to be as bargain basement a built as possible because it is just a TV server. Still, if just a couple of bucks or so makes a big difference, let me know the better option? I would prefer AMD but not wedded to the idea. My current main machine uses a FX-8350 processor.
Suggestions?
