FBI sues Seattle over surveillance cameras

Nope, not suing because Seattle put up surveillance cameras, but because the city has gotten public records requests for their locations. The surveillance cameras belong to the FBI, and the only reason they notified anyone in Seattle was to keep City Light from taking them off the power poles.

So a journalist, among others, filed a FOIA request for records relating to law enforcement cameras, and the Feds are saying theirs are exempt from disclosure, because (insert usual political good guys vs bad guys stuff). And they're suing to keep them that way.

I already knew there was surveillance in our neighborhood, because it showed that the murder up the street was a hate crime, not gang stuff as the cops had blithely assumed.

But this is also after the journos discovered that mysterious boxes on power poles were a system to track all cellphone activity and movement in the downtown area, which had been put up secretively without local government's awareness (or so they claimed).

It seems as if all they accomplish with these things is to push people towards more hatred and distrust of government, both left and right wing versions.
