A company as part of it's strategic plan wants to be a big part of the local community and always has "volunteer" opportunities that serve the dual purpose of promoting their brand/company name/community involvement.
This type of volunteering, aka free labor/marketing", is a factor in employee evaluations. My issue is that someone could do they're job well but lose out on a promotion, raises, or even lose their job because they essentially didn't give the company free labor.
This is a large organization that's been around for a while so I would guess it's legal.
Even so I'll ask. Is this legal? Are there any regulations/restrictions regarding this? I'm also curious if this occurs in other countries.
