They're basically dividing up the remaining primaries to give them a better chance of getting more delegates than The Donald. I've a suspicion this may be counterproductive, but I'm no Nate Silver.

ETA: One thing I've been continually surprised by in this election is the vast number of people, including Trump, who seem unaware that choosing convention delegates by popular vote in primaries is a pretty new thing, mostly in the past 50 years. Before that it was all smoke-filled rooms and party bosses.
