Pretty impressive.
Cops create a trojan supposedly encrypted communication app called ANOM and talk the bad dudes into using it, then store every phone call for the past 3 years.
The US, Aus, UK, us all pounce at once

Senior gang members arrested after global sting targeting organised crime Senior members of the Mongrel Mob, Head Hunters and Comancheros gangs have been arrested in a massive police operation targeting organised crime. All up, the New Zealand arm of the operation, codenamed Operation Trojan Shield, netted 35 people across the North Island, who are facing 900 charges. They have been accused of drug dealing and money laundering and will appear in courts in Auckland and Hamilton on Tuesday. The sting is part of a global crackdown on organised crime, described by police as the worlds most sophisticated law enforcement action. More than 9kg of methamphetamine has been seized in the operation, along with four guns, 14 vehicles and motorbikes, and more than $1 million in cash. Police have been working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States since January 2020 on the operation. Police said the FBI created a closed encrypted company, 'ANOM', to monitor people's communications, and for 18 months the alleged offenders were unknowingly using the system to talk about their criminal behaviour. The users believed their ANOM devices were protected from law enforcement by impenetrable encryption, police said. Detectives were able to get ahold of thousands of messages. National organised crime group director detective superintendent Greg Williams said detectives were able to get ahold of thousands of messages between organised crime groups. Williams said a number of arrests are still to be made, and he is expecting to see more than 1000 charges laid These transnational groups are preying on our vulnerable people, he said. Police expect they will now see a dent in the level of methamphetamine found in wastewater. Across the Tasman, a world exclusive report in Sydney's Daily Telegraph said the genius police sting had tricked Mafia, bikie and global gang heavyweights around the world............ |
