Is there any connection with the established Roman pagan polytheism at the reported time of Christ, and the development of the doctrine of sainthood within catholicism, with all its attributes to various elements of human activities and needs?
I have tried to check this out but can only find religious commentators talking about the history of the Catholic church in the much wider sense.
