US state of Alabama beats nineteen thousand children.

Despite the ineffectiveness of corporal punishment of children (as shown in the scientific studies) it remains disturbingly popular in parts of the USA, mostly the 'Old South'.

During the 2013-14 school year almost 19,000 children (about 2.5% of the state's students) were beaten in public schools. Naturally black children were paddled at a disproportionate rate compared to whites.

Oh well, this is the same state that locked down a school on Friday due to 'threats from clowns'.
