This is to allow discussion of non-Abrahamic religions without interfering with the discussion of Abrahamic religions in a parallel thread (just to respect the wishes of the prior OP).
To lead off: I understand the cosmic purposes of several of the central Gods and their avatars in Hinduism in terms of the Universe (Krishna, Shiva, etc.). But what is their relationship to us in terms of their goals- i.e. do they have a purpose for us? Are any of their cosmic actions directed specifically to help people? Are we, in turn, obligated to perform certain actions for them? Or are we just an audience, bystanders, or creatures with whom they can sometimes interact for their own amusement?
Curious and I was hoping others here could tell me their perspective. Thanks!
