Can Americans own nuclear weapons?

Hi all

Sorry for "yet another gun thread", but Im actually curious and dont fully grok America.

So, can an American legally own nuclear weapons, missiles, etc etc?

If not, why not? Legislation? Why not include (semi)autos?

I realise this isnt an original thought, but Ive never seen this particular thing debated anywhere, and Im curious as to why it isnt this easy.
