US Takes another step towards Tyranny.

In his work The Republic, Plato describes how when the Elite Establishment gives up control of their place in a Democracy to increase the levels of Democracy and the democratic process is that it opens the door to the biggest threat to Democracy, the Populist Demagogue.

In this round of Primaries, in both cases we have seen the Establishment vs the Populists, in one case the Candidate is very much a Demagogue.

We have seen how a Demagogue can sweep through on as wave of popularity, and without methods to prevent them, they can exploit the level of anger and anti-Establishment ill will to take control. We have also seen that with controls in place, this is a lot harder. Sadly those that support such populism don't understand why these safeguards are there in the first place and rather than understanding that they are guard rails to protect their freedom from the tides of radical political changes, they rally against those safeguards as undemocratic and demand their removal, thus unwittingly opening the doors to the Demagogue and to the rise of Tyranny.

And so what do we see today? The one thing that could have stopped Trump's populist wave and prevented his nomination, and that the Democrats have, but the Republicans don't, is now under threat in the Democratic Party.

Yup, Maine has removed Super-Delegates and are going to try and get the rest of the States to follow suit, thus opening up the door to a Demagogue on the Left to sweep through just as Trump has on the right.

Well done. Plato was so right, the path to Tyranny comes through total democracy.
