Hello all. I've been trying to troubleshoot my Wifi network at home. Things work great about 75% or the time, but then at random times throughout the day, I start experiencing about a 20% packet loss (using ping) to the IP address of the Wifi router.
Here are some possible solutions I think I've eliminated:
* Router hardware: I've tried two different, although somewhat inexpensive, wireless access points. It seems unlikely to me that both would behave this way.
* Router placement: When things go bad, I find that I can place either of my laptops or my phone about a foot away from the access point and the behavior continues.
* Wifi Channel: I've tried all of the ones available on my hardware (1-11), and also tried various channel widths.
I'm guessing something in my neighbor's apartment or elsewhere is being periodically turned on and causing the trouble.
Any ways I can troubleshoot/fix this? I'm willing to spend a bit if needed for a robust solution. Also, I only have OS X hardware and an iPhone available for testing.
