Hillary Clinton - "You have a right to be believed."

Hillary Clinton, speaking of survivors of sexual assault said, "You have a right to be heard. You have a right to be believed."

I'm appalled.

No, you don't have that right. Heard? Yes. Believed? No.

I can recall when I was a young lad at the University of Illinois during Ronald Reagan's first term. His attorney general, Ed Meese, made a comment (paraphrasing but not exaggerating) "If you are a suspect, you are guilty." We were, quite rightly, appalled. When he came to campus to deliver a speech, he was met with numerous protestors, and some counter protestors organized by the local College Republicans. Those protestors have grown up now, but there's a new generation of liberals who ought to be protesting.

The counter protestors have also grown up, and something tells me that they will suddenly see the wisdom of the rights of the accused. Hypocrisy is truly non-partisan.

Of course, there is also a note of irony, coming from Hillary Clinton. You would think she would have some experience with the damage that could be done by unsubstantiated allegations of sexual assault. Maybe she meant to say, "You have a right to be believed, unless you are part of a vast right wing conspiracy."

I have never been a great Hillary fan, but I think I am now in the Anyone But Hillary camp.

And, when all is said and done, if present trends continue, I'll probably end up voting for her for President, because I don't think Bernie can win the nomination, and whoever wins the Republican nomination will have his or her own set of stupid beliefs that I think are even more dangerous.

*Sigh*
