Someone very close to me (a 3 year old child) had to take antibiotics for a week, and I am trying to help figure out whether or not they should take probiotics now. Everyone on Earth seems to recommend t, but the only actual scientific evidence I have found to support doing so is that it can help with diarreah, which is not a symptom that this person experienced. In fact, no digestive troubles whatsoever.
I find lots of woo sites, though, that say that taking probiotics is VERY important to help the gut heal, and that not doing so might compromise the immune system.
I don't think its necessarily harmless to take probiotics, seeing as they are a manmade dose of bacteria, so I don't want to advise this route unless there is actual evidence that it will help one's immune system.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or share any relevant knowledge?
