So Obama said in his State of the Union Address that he would be willing to listen to ideas from Republicans that would work in the best interests of the American people. And he should, assuming they actually have any. Do they? From what I can tell their agenda is something like this:
-Keystone XL pipeline. This may actually have merit though I think the merit is incidental to why they really want it. Obama has already promised to veto it though and he can't really back down unless there are concessions (and I doubt they would agree to any).
-Appealing Obamacare. Obama will definitely veto any bills that attempt to do this. If Republicans have any ideas on how to make it a better law, Obama should listen to them. But they have no interests in making it better. They have for years been telling themselves and their base that it is a terrible law and an affront to freedom. I imagine the smarter ones wish they hadn't started calling it Obamacare because it will only help to improve his legacy. They definitely don't want to help him improve his legacy even more.
-Overturning executive orders, especially on immigration. Again, something that Obama will definitely veto unless they also do something to actually address issues facing the country (fat chance).
-Deregulating Wall Street. What can go wrong with that.
-Weakening the EPA. Because corporations have proven they can be trusted to respect the environment without the government forcing them to.
-Restrictions on abortions. Because there are no issues more important in this country than taking control over women's bodies.
-Lowering taxes on the rich. Because that would go a great way towards balancing the budget like they claim to want.
-Doing their best to undermine Social Security/Medicare. Because screwing over seniors is the best way to help the country.
Anything else?
I think they will become enraged to find out that winning the Senate was basically meaningless and that they can't accomplish any of their terrible agenda. Making their rage even worse will be that they can do nothing to stop Obama from using his executive power given that he can veto those bills too. They may well decide that impeachment is their only option. That would be a terrible idea with zero chance at success but they may just be unable to control themselves. John Boehner probably knows it would be a bad idea but he's proven to be a terrible Speaker of the House as he can't control his own people and is a spineless coward (somehow Ted Cruz made him go through with the pointless shutdown even though Ted Cruz is a freshman Senator while Boehner is theoretically the most powerful man in Congress). I wouldn't be surprised if he folds under pressure and lets it happen even knowing that there is zero chance that 67 Senators would vote to remove Obama from office.
