In the past, I have only seen a small number of costumes worn at Penn Jillette's Private Rock & Roll Doughnut & Bacon Party, (that takes place an evening of TAM). A couple of characters from Dr. Horrible, and some Pastafarian Pirates, for example.
But, I would like to encourage more!
Your costume does not need to be terribly elaborate. A lab coat and goggles are sufficient to be a generic mad scientist (crazy wig is optional). A good turtleneck sweater is all you need to be Carl Sagan. Etc. But, of course, you can also get more extravagant than that, if you want to!
I, for one, plan to appear as... The Straw Vulcan!
This was a term coined by Julia Galef (a guest at TAM), to describe the common TV and movie trope of emotion being better than logic, (as if the two are exclusive). Read more about the concept here:

I wore a costume based on that concept for a Skeptic's Halloween party, last year. This year, I will introduce a few upgrades.
Who else would like to join me, in wearing some sort of costume to the party?!!
