"You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder"

I have just recently noticed that something - perhaps Windows itself - is creating a metric buttload of folders in the root of my D: drive.

They have hard-to-prono0unce names like:

Quote:

1a131890952795504b7143

1aad1713babfea7515d725

1c9a2fd9e7955c98d590a72427

1dd904739f3079f8a77e2c9bdd41

1eadfda08c0e68544882a52e73624a

2a6126eec5487d6d36246b

...and so on.

Most are empty, but a few contain subfolders with names like:

Quote:

1025

1028

1029

1030

1031

1032

Graphics

DHtmlHeader.html

...and more.

Tired of scrolling past the hundreds upon hundreds in the root folder, I tried to delete them all using Windows Explorer.

It successfully deleted most of them, but for more than one hundred, I received the error message "You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder".

Unfortunately, I do not have the administrator password to my computer.

Any ideas on:

  1. What is creating all of these folders? (I'm guessing it's IE)

  2. How can I stop it from creating more of them?

  3. How, short of formatting the drive, can I get rid of the ones which are already there?

Any help would be appreciated,

-RSL
