Hey, anybody have a problem like this?
I have a machine with a relatively new PSU (read: may be able to return to manufacturer, but not retailer).
The PSU has worked flawlessly. Recently though, the PSU works flawlessly for about half an hour, then gets extremely loud as if it were revving up, or grinding against something. I've positively traced this to the PSU (I've stopped each of the other fans). It's definitely the PSU.
CPU usage at these times is about 5%, gpu temperature is low. All fans (including PSU, when loud) are blowing cool air out the back. I used compressed air to clean everything (not much dust in PSU, anyway). If it was a bearing, shouldn't it be loud at all times? Why would it run silently for half an hour or so, suddenly get and stay loud, but then be silent on reboot?
Is this a PSU issue? A warranty issue? The motherboard is 4 yrs old. Could it be a MB/sleep state issue? I've googled around and just haven't seen an issue exactly like this.
Thoughts?
