I've always had a theory that I'm sure must be swirling around somewhere else but I've never bothered to look. Perhaps somebody could point me in the direction of some place where they get into this one?
Iraq wasn't invaded for "weapons of mass destruction", or even to "get their oil" -- but to jack up the price of oil and inflate defence contractor stock and business. Just like the villain in GOLDFINGER, the goal was not to steal the gold (oil), but to rather take it off the market and cause chaos so that those with gold (oil) would see large increases in the worth of their holdings. Which in Operation Iraqi Goldfinger also meant massive profits for the defence contractors on all levels.
As we can see, the US didn't end up taking all the Iraq oil, which just trades on the world market like all oil does. The concerned parties just banked massive profits for a number of years, while the conspiracy crowd threw up an endless, nonsensical smoke and mirror 9/11 dog and pony show without paying very much attention. And even now they don't have to ever fear real investigation into their conspiracy, let alone prosecution.
That's my theory, anyways. I haven't gotten around to creating giant flow charts or mountains of quote mining.
Maybe not very exciting or wildly complex compared to the whole 9/11, JFK, faked moon landing, lizard people usual stuff. But you know what? That's what probably makes it true.
