Linus would understand the anti-Obamacare faithful

Much as Linus waits in vain for the Great Pumpkin there are those who wait in vain for the Great Repeal. A simple examination shows that Linus and this group have much in common.

  • Any scrap of evidence for the Great Pumpkin is seen as overwhelming proof of its existence--Any scrap of evidence for the Great Repeal is seen as overwhelming proof of its existence.

  • The worst possible sin is to admit any doubt of the Great Pumpkin's imminent appearance--The worst possible sin is to admit any doubt of the Great Repeal's imminent appearance.

  • Talking about the Great Pumpkin in glowing terms is proof of your belief--Talking about the Great Repeal in glowing terms is proof of your belief.

  • If you just believe hard enough, the Great Pumpkin will arrive, showering you with presents--If you just believe hard enough, the Great Repeal will arrive, showering you with lower premiums and better coverage.

  • Belief in the Great Pumpkin prevents getting candy--Belief in the Great Repeal prevents getting any personal benefit from the ACA.

  • The main reason for promoting the Great Pumpkin is that Halloween is not as good as Christmas--The main reason for promoting the Great Repeal is that the ACA is not as good as something that has never existed and is not being offered.

  • Giving up Halloween for the fiction of the Great Pumpkin seems silly--Giving up the ACA for sinking ship of the old system seems silly.

  • Sadly, sitting in a pumpkin patch does not make the Great Pumpkin a reality--Sadly, picking at the ACA while offering nothing better does not make the Great Repeal a reality.

  • The bottom line is that the Great Pumpkin is a mythic belief based on the myth of Santa Claus and has no chance of ever coming true because real gifts come from mythic figures--The bottom line is that the Great Repeal is a myth based on the myth that Republican policies aren't responsible for the current recession and has no chance of ever coming true because real improvements in policy do not come from paranoid ideation.
