The biggest time wasters. There's an error message comes up when doing something on a computer.
Only the error message tells you something completely wrong. Waste hours trying fix the supposed source of the problem when it is really something completely different.
I had this problem today. Message says ports have to be open. So I open ports on firewall. Still get message. Shut down firewall. Still get message.
Coworker finds note that says this can happen if temp directory is on network drive. Temp directory is on c: drive
On a wild hunch, run install from c: drive. Install works.
WTF.
