The previous thread was about whether or not Assange was a rapist.
Apparently the charges have since been dropped (or the Swedish government is no longer interested in having him extradited and imprisoned there).
Yet he is now in a prison in the UK apparently awaiting charges of "computer intrusion" (literally who cares?) and espionage charges that apparently have a possible sentence of up to 170 years.
In my humble opinion, no British government should extradite anyone to a country that allows perverse punishments such as those in Guantanamo Bay or ludicrously long prison sentences of over 100 years. To me, such punishments sound medieval.
Besides that, the espionage act is a pretty dodgy piece of legislation given its origins, and should not be supported by any civilized legislature. But why should the UK care about a US espionage case especially when the US won't extradite a woman who ran over and killed a UK citizen?
By now, Assange's life has been so destroyed by a combination of his own choices and the relentless pursuit of a rather incoherent legal system that no sane human could consider him to have "gotten away with it" although I don't doubt that some idiots on this very forum will claim it.
It now seems pointless and vindictive to pursue this guy, as weird as he might be. Biden should pardon him, and if not, the UK should release him if they want to prove that all the bluster about leaving the EU means taking back control.
