The Don household has 2 TVs, one downstairs in the lounge and one upstairs in the music room.
The TV downstairs is the larger of the two and is connected to an oldish Humax PVR. Although the Humax has a limited number of players installed (IIRC just iPlayer), we've never bothered connecting the ethernet. Mrs Don is the custodian of the downstairs PVR and uses it to record the programmes for her or joint viewing.
The TV upstairs is smaller and is connected to a Talktalk Youview box. As well as being a PVR, the Youview box has a large number of players (including the main terrestrial channels' players, Sky on demand and Nexflix) and has an ethernet connection. It's the only way that we can watch and record the Sky channels that come with our Talktalk TV subscription (and at the moment watch the 3 months free trial of Sky Sports). This PVR is my domain and I record programmes mostly for my own viewing (which means BBC4 documentaries and shows from the Marvel universe).
This setup works fine except for a couple of circumstances:
Mrs Don has also been a numpty and failed to cancel her Amazon Prime membership in the first month. This means that we're stuck with a year's Amazon Prime subscription () and no way to easily watch it in comfort. To address these points, we've bought an Amazon Firestick and hope that it'll be useful. looking at online reviews:
So it looks like we're good to go - have you got any positive/negative experiences of Firestick or other TV devices ?

This setup works fine except for a couple of circumstances:
- Sometimes Mrs Don has failed to record the first programme in a series and so wants to watch it on iPlayer
- Sometimes we are sitting downstairs with the fire lit and we'd like to watch something on Nexflix without trooping upstairs

- People complain that there aren't players for ITV or Channel4 available - about 95% of what we care about watching is on the BBC so that's not a big issue
- People complain that most of the good stuff is on subscription. Well we have Netflix and Amazon Prime () so that's fine
- People complain that it only works with an excellent wifi signal. The Firestick will be about 6 metres away from the wireless router through a single wall in a modern house
- There are known issues with BT Home Hub and/or Samsung TVs. We have Talktalk and a Sony TV
So it looks like we're good to go - have you got any positive/negative experiences of Firestick or other TV devices ?
