Dual monitor questions, suggestions solicited.

I want to add a second monitor to my system. (One program I have takes up the entire screen on my 27" monitor.) I want to upgrade my five year old video card while I'm doing this.

What should I look for while shopping and do you have a suggestion for a card that meets my needs. I'm not a gamer but I watch Youtubes, etc. a lot.
