A reply to "Chicago has the toughest gun laws in the US!" arguement

It pops up on my Facebook all the time.

And now with San Bernadino...

California has the toughest gun laws in the nation about assault rifles!
GUN LAWS ACCOMPLISH (POOP)



So, in wanting to have a reply to this; I think I have one, but I'd like to run it past you guys/gals/its

My wife loves Law and Order: YYZ (I'm a Rush fan.)

When "they" on the show can't nail the bad guy on what they want to nail him on (usually touching and/or kidnapping a kid, "they" realize, "Oh, but we don't have enough to get him on kidnapping with intent to sell, but we do have enough to get him on (this other charge - probably something like child endargement)"

So, while there might not be enough to get Mrs/Mr shooter, he/she/it might be able to be charged with this other crime, or that other crime.

and/or

If they do arrest Mr/Mrs shooter, violation of this other law is enough to get him/her/it off of the streets.


(But then this leads us to the problem of prison overcrowding and privately owned prisons - but that is for another day.)
