Salt Free Water Softener, fraud?

See http://ift.tt/1nqE4aX

OK, the chemistry of cation exchange is pretty simple. This cannot be doing this as it claims to use no salt and to waste no water (no drain needed). Even if it could somehow filter out multivalent cations where is it getting something to replace them with and how is it getting rid of these hard water cations?

In fact while the activated charcoal filter is supposed to have a lifetime of 5 years before it needs to be exchanged (questionable in and of itself as activated charcoal is wonderful at first but does not necessarily work that well for as long as people think), the magic NaturSoft tank never needs to be replaced.

Am I missing something here or is this as simple as it looks to me: pure and simple, unadulterated fraud?

I want to go beyond the knee jerk reaction of feeling that this is fraud the moment I heard of this (if appropriate). Tell me what I am missing. Please tell me how this could ever work?
