I've felt like asking this question for a while now. To have irrational beliefs is to be human. We do what we can to safeguard ourselves, but nobody is perfect, and we can't know everything. I would also add, lacking belief in one thing, like religion, doesn't automatically make one smart. So without further ado--
I don't believe in gods of any sort
The supernatural holds no appeal
And yet, with deep regret I must report
I still hold fast to things that are not real
And things I cannot prove, and fancy flights
Like foolish hopes, the substance of one's dreams
The things that keep me thinking through the nights
A star that may lie closer than it seems
Though conflict rages through the Middle East
And mothers of the world shed bloody tears
I feel that we are closing in on peace
And warfare may have reached its final years
A time when innocents are never killed
When nations do not murder over dirt
When freedom reigns and blood is never spilled
And weapons slumber dormant and inert
Perhaps one day, religions of the world
Will coexist and set aside their hate
No more shall stones of bigotry be hurled
As people learn to love and tolerate
No matter if they're Christians, Muslims, Jews
Or Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, or Pagans too
They're free to practice any faith they choose
Without the need to force their point of view
I see a future, not too distant, where
The way you're born is not a source of shame
And everyone is treated just and fair
For underneath we're human all the same
Let's look beyond the layers of our skin
Discover things that dwell inside our heads
All races are our next of human kin
Whose blood beats with the same shared shade of red
I put my faith in what the Luddites dread
That scientific progress lights the way
With our inventions paving paths ahead
To greet the sunrise of the coming day
Technology will help us, one and all
We'll use these tools to craft and to create
To tackle every challenge big and small
And help our species reach a higher state
Humanity will live in harmony
With planet Earth, the only home we've got
Although alarmists may still disagree
I think we'll find the answers that we've sought
Before the deluge comes and we all drown
We'll pool our genius to avert this fate
Together does our brilliance know no bounds
We'll save the Earth before it is too late
The world is full of color, life, and form
That can be captured in the written word
The artist's passion burns intense and warm
Ensuring that the truth is not unheard
In art we find the power to unite,
Communicate, and cross our boundaries
To bring each other wonder and delight
And put the most tormented mind at ease
I still believe in things that can't be seen
And things for which I have no evidence
I put my faith in fellow human beings
Although I'm well aware it makes no sense
I chase the distant glimmer in the sky
Though always does its source elude my view
I still have hope, though can't imagine why
That's what I still believe, how about you?
