Once before, I know I was picking settings controlling whether my FaceBook newsfeed would include "all" or just "most" or "some" of the updates my friends posted. I figured this was something they came up with to allow people I call "collectors", with hundreds or thousands of "friends", to filter out the ones who aren't really friends and still get their updates about their actual friends.
Similarly, they introduced a distinction between "friends" and "close friends" at some point, which I figured was for the same purpose: letting collectors collect without their feed/timeline/wall getting too flooded.
Just a few minutes ago, I went back to look at my settings so I could tell my mother how to set this one, and it's gone! Did they just merge it into the "friends or close friends" distinction, so now it's automatic that you get only some updates from the former and all updates from the latter?
What brought this up was my mother saying she thinks she's not getting all her updates anymore. I guess she found out by going directly to other people's timelines and seeing posts that hadn't shown up on her FaceBook home screen's news feed. So my suspicion is that that problem started with such a change at the website recently; for anybody who didn't move any of their "friends" into the "close friends" category after that option appeared, the former category would be in the now reduced "some/most updates" mode, and only the latter category would be in the full "all updates" mode, even though the former category would include all of our FaceBook friends and the latter category would include none! So any & all of us non-collectors who didn't bother reclassifying our FaceBook friends could have been missing stuff and not known it unless we went directly to our friends' timelines. Is that what happened?
