Well, spouse and I went with another couple to see a movie the morning of New Years Day. Not knowing better, we signed up for the good seats at the local iPIC for the Wolf of Wall Street.
I wish my time machine had shown me my review before we went.
The good news: It's classic Scorsese, well made, well photographed, well acted, believable, and ambiguous.
The bad news: I hated every character in the movie except for two minor characters. In fact, I hated them SO much that it rubbed off on the whole movie. Oh, and then, it has a record repetition rate for the 'f' word. I think Library Lady had suggested some statistics on Facebook, in fact. It also had a very simple way of demonstrating that the main character slept around, it showed us all the details, thank you, in near-graphic detail.
To quote my own review elsewhere:
Unnecessarily gratuitous, unnecessarily rude, unnecessarily depicting drug-fueled debauchery, character after character hateful, deceitful, and dishonest.
Oh, and it's 3 hours long, too.

Saying that this movie is gratuitous is like saying that 30 degree C water is warm and wet. |
