So, they've been running the story about Ty Warner, the fellow of Beanie Babies fame, who's total wealth is evidently in the billions.
He's plead guilty to income tax evasion. Seems amid his billions, he salted away a measly 25 million or so in Swiss bank accounts and hid this money from the government. He was caught (along with a bunch of others) in the recent disclosure agreements with these same banks.
So what I'm wondering... Why do these individuals, with so much money, feel the need to evade taxes? We are told that Warner was, at the same time he was hiding monies from the government, quite the little philanthropist, giving away millions to various charities.
Doesn't that seem weird? We are told that the Koch brothers, incredibly wealthy and very elderly as well, absolutely hate taxation and spend much of their political money trying to limit or eliminate taxes.
They've got vastly more wealth than they could ever use in the remaining years of their lives...Is this some sort of a game with the mega-wealthy?
It's been said that the wealthy are not as you and I....
