This was a topic on the BBC radio 2, Jeremy Vine show this afternoon, where one respondent on the show (via email) admitted to aborting her expectant third son because she couldn't face another boy. She admitted lying and stated it was easy to convince the right parties to allow her to go ahead.
She now has a much loved and much desired daughter - so all is well.... I presume. Another caller related a tale about how this had been a subject that was discussed with her during a non-routine scan 34 years ago!
The thrust of the show was that it is prevalent within the ethnic minority population.
It was also investigated (although I'm not entirely convinced by their methodology) by The Independent, according to them;
Do you give this report credence? If so, how do you think this can be managed? Should we discriminate against certain sections of our community or is it nobodies business but the parent/s concerned?

Quote:
The practice of sex-selective abortion is now so commonplace that it has affected the natural 50:50 balance of boys to girls within some immigrant groups and has led to the disappearance of between 1,400 and 4,700 females from the national census records of England and Wales, we can reveal. |
