"To lberate the Muslim from his religion is the best service that one can render him"

"Muslims are the first victims of Islam. Many times I have observed in my travels in the Orient, that fanaticism comes from a small number of dangerous men who maintain the others in the practice of religion by terror. To liberate the Muslim from his religion is the best service that one can render him." - E. Renan

This is the opening quote in Ibn Warraq's great book Why I Am Not A Muslim. Do you think the quote is accurate or not? Is it really possible to seriously dispute that the prospects of the Muslim world would be vastly improved if they stopped believing in their faith and accepted the world as it really is?
