I've always found it to be a very interesting religion, with an incomparatively rich history; however I don't know very much about it, apart from the glossing-over look I got in religion class. As someone who is very interested in the history of religion and comparative mythology I feel that it would be interesting to learn more about.
I'm looking for something (or some collection of works) that goes as far back as possible, dealing with influences, archaology, linguistics, evolution of beliefs, sects, imported and exported practices, and so on, and so forth. In particular, I think questions like "how old is the version of the religion we know today?" are very interesting.
