This really is just a rant and I'm mostly posting for tea and sympathy with people I think will understand why I'm so outraged.
I hold a professional license that requires me to take a certain number of hours of CEUs a year. I've been in the industry since 1991 and my licenses are in structural pest control, lawn and ornamental plants, and weed control. The CEU instructor yesterday offered the following information:
San Augustine Decline is caused by a turf fungus so treat it with fungicide.
**No, it's caused by a virus. Fungicide will do diddle squat for it.
Another name for San Augustine Decline is Take-All Patch disease.
**No, Take All Patch actually IS caused by a fungus.
Mycelium is a virus.
**No. WTH.
Mycelium "virus" has been shown to be a treatment for HIV that "they" don't want you to know about.
**:jaw-dropp
Plant viruses can infect humans.
**
Some kind of babble that included the term "plant blood."
**OMG, I just don't even know what to say.
A doctor who suffers from what's that called when you can't eat bread? Yeah, Celiac disease, he's has rediscovered and ancient strain of wheat that dates to Biblical times that is gluten-free.
**Is he a doctor of English lit or something? If it doesn't have gluten, it's not wheat.
GMO foods and selectively bred crops strains are the same thing.
**:boggled:
Some weeds can be controlled by acidifying the soil. (true) Consider raising soil pH if these weeds are a problem.
**Please, dear FSM, get me out of here.
I have to assume the people in that room know BS when they heard it because I'm ashamed to say I didn't confront the instructor. I got my credits and bolted at the first possible moment to seek out a vodka and tonic.
Thanks for listening.
